Standing in front of a panel is fine for ten minutes and awkward for twenty. The moment the session gets long enough to matter, you want to be horizontal — and once you are horizontal, the light may as well be underneath you, covering the whole back, both hamstrings and both calves at once instead of whatever you happened to point at.

The Deep Delta Recovery Mat is a full-length mat with 1,370 dual-wavelength diodes across a 190 by 85 cm surface, including a section for the head and neck. You lie on it. There is no aiming, no repositioning halfway through, and no part of the routine that requires you to stand up and turn around.

Both wavelengths run from every diode rather than alternating across the surface: 660nm in the visible red band and 850nm in the near-infrared band. Three modes, five brightness levels and nine timer settings mean the first week can be short and dim and the second month can be neither — which is how anybody actually builds tolerance to a light device.

The surface is a waterproof leather-like material that wipes clean, over a flexible core that rolls rather than folds. It stores upright in a cupboard. Protective eyewear, the controller, the adapter and the cabling are all in the box.

How it differs from the Light Blanket

This is one surface, treating the side of you in contact with it. The Deep Delta Light Blanket zips around you and treats both sides in the same session, at roughly twice the output and twice the price. This is the everyday one, and for most people it is the right one.

Using it

Bare skin against the surface where practical, or a single thin layer. Start at ten minutes on a low brightness setting and build. Consistency beats duration — four short sessions a week does more than one long one.
